Marmaris

The map of Marmaris Turkey is dotted with a lot many attractions which is sure to impress tourists to Marmaris Turkey. Marmaris Castle is today an attraction in the form of a museum after almost ten years of restoration. There are seven galleries which house a collection of archaeological, historical, ethnographic and nautical exhibits. The castle provides wonderful views of the city with an absolute stunning panorama by the day as well as night. One can even make a visit to see the Tashan and Kemerli Bridge which stretches about 10 kilometers along the Mugla road in the Iskelebasi region. The structure built from stone and brick has arched bridges and was constructed by Suleyman the Magnificent.

There are many ancient cities in the region which have a historical importance and are attractions unto themselves. Physkos ruins were at one time an important harbor city of the ancient Caria region located on the Asar hill to the north. It is quite a surprise to see the old city walls dating back to the Hellenistic period still fairly intact. The ruins of Loryma part of the Rhodes foundations is also visited by archaeologists. Though there were nine rectangular towers made from smooth rock-cut masonry built at the edge of Rhodes Island, today only the balcony tower can be seen at the northern end. The Sariana Mausoleum will definitely be an experience and from here one will be able to get a bird’s eye view of the city. Fatma Ana (Sariana) was famous for her predictions. The most striking dome is to be seen in the Ibrahim Aga Mosque. The beaches and promenades of the city are an absolute beauty and attract lots of tourists. One particularly lovely such stop is the Cennet Island which is about 30 minutes of boat journey and has a thick forest with a number of accommodation and restaurants. The tourists from cruise and tour boats love to stop here anytime of the season as it is beautifully suited to swimming and eating. Another natural cavern which offers clean, green waters ideal for swimming is the Fosforlu Cavern. Finally the tourists will find Marmaris Bay a very natural harbor which has three marinas with 1100 capacity and nine yacht yards with 1200 capacity. The region sees various festivals organized in order to develop tourism in the region. The International Yacht Festival in the second week of May and the week long International Marmaris Yacht Races at the end of October are the main activities.
