About Turkey Turkey Cities Turkey Hotels Turkey Travel Guide

The food in Turkey is of the exotic type providing the visitors an opportunity to the travelers to indulge themselves to their satisfaction. There is a general saying “Go to Turkey for its history, but stay for the food”. The greatest influence that the Turkish cooking had was during the rise of the Ottoman Empire (1453 – 1909). The magnetism of the Empire helped in spreading Turkish food as one of the world’s greatest cuisine. With the discovery of Turkey today on a global scale, Turkish dining is gaining prominence. The food found in Turkey is self sustained mainly due to the varied geography which provides a seasonal climate.

There are vineyards where the famous yellow Sultana raisins are cultivated. The wine needs no mentioning as it is a customary tradition to see grapevines trailing upwards along apartment balconies. Lambs and chicken are the main meats of Turkey food and it is not uncommon to find herds of sheep and goats proliferating. The country also boasts of a beautiful landscape which is further enhanced by an embellishment of trees of ancient olive, fig, and pistachio which add to the air of antiquity.

There are laws in place to ensure the freshness of food in Turkey. One will find newly baked bread a staple item. It is common to see seasonal vegetables and fruits abounding and which are served during the height of their growing periods. The eggplants are loved by the Turks as are spring peaches, summer figs, and fall quince. Dining on Turkish food is akin to dining on centuries old recipes such as skewered and roasted meats, the famous shis-kebab which is reminiscent of the nomadic heritage. The Turkish has been refined by chefs through years of hard work. As a result the imperial cuisine of Turkey has come to be appreciated and the appreciation continues to grow.
