Phuket Island is commonly referred to as the ‘Pearl of South’ and is the largest island in Thailand. It is one of the southern provinces that runs 48 kilometers north to south and 21 kilometers east to west of Thailand. The name Phuket is apparently derived from the word Bukit in Malay which means mountain or hill, as this is what the island appears like from a distance.
