Located on the western coastal region of Gotland Island, the city of Visby is the largest urban town on this isle. Since the year 1995, Visby Sweden has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. The name "Visby" is derived from the Old Norse Vis, which stands for a sacrificial place, and bær, signifies "settlement". In a different definition the origin comes from the Polish word "wyspa" which means "island".

Another reason why the city is crowded during this time is the annual celebration of Medieval Week-Medeltidsvecka. Music, theatre, drama, street shows are held to mark this age old festival. With people wearing medieval clothes and reveling in the fete, Visby is full of surprises and fun.
