Sri Lanka travel is regarded as a safe destination to travel and one of the most picturesque countries on earth and is definitely a tourist’s delight. And moreover a safe and relaxing visit is even more satisfying. During travel to Sri Lanka visitors should get themselves appraised about the country’s facts. Below is a list of some travel tips which would come handy.

  • For photography permits are required before one can take photos at certain sites. Entrance tickets are available at The Central Cultural Fund, Colombo and from all Cultural Triangle Sites. These tickets cover charges for photography, recording and parking.
  • Climatically, the best & driest seasons are from December to March on the West & South Coasts and in the hill country, and from May to September in the East Coast.
  • The exchange of foreign currency is only permitted at banks, money changes and hotels. You should retain the receipts for exchange of large amounts. There are several ATMs in Colombo and a couple in Kandy. You'll have no problem changing traveler’s cheques at any major bank. Thomas Cook and Visa are the most widely accepted.
  • It’s advisable to take an adequate health insurance cover during travel to Sri Lanka as for any country.
  • A 10% service charge is included in bills for food and accommodation, but tipping is a customary way of showing your appreciation for services rendered. Generally a 10% of the bill is accepted as a tip.
  • Drug abuse is illegal in Sri Lanka, and one could end up in jail if caught possessing, dealing or using anything illegal from marijuana to heroin.
