| Sri Lanka Cuisine - Taste It!! | ||||
Sri Lanka food made with mixing Sri Lankan spices is an absolute delight. A typical Sri Lankan meal comprises of rice and curry and fish (alternatively-meat) laced with Sri Lankan spices. For many westerners food in Sri Lanka is a gourmet’s delight. The curries are usually made hot but can be mellowed to suit the pallet. If you like something light, try dishes such as hoppers, string hopers and roti which can be had in combination with curries. One very popular type of food in Sri Lanka is roti stuffed with fresh chilies, onions and cooked eggs and griddle cooked meat or fish. For people in a hurry there is the special “Kotu” roti which is chopped with onions, vegetables and meat. Sri Lanka food has adopted Ayurveda in its cooking as it is a philosophy of healthy living. Ayurveda is broken up into two parts: ‘ayur’ meaning life and ‘veda’ meaning wisdom. The Ayurvedic philosophy considers that one’s general well being depends on one’s choice of diet, lifestyle and habits. If one keeps this philosophy on which the food in Sri Lanka is based, one will be able to minimize stress and its associated health problems. |
