Sri Lanka is located between 5 and 10 north latitude resulting in Sri Lanka climate being typically tropical with the average temperature hovering around 27°C. It is cooler on the higher altitudes. As the climate Sri Lanka is normally bright, sunny, warm days even during the height of the monsoon there is no off season here. The country receives south west monsoon mainly in the months from May to July to the western, southern and central parts of the island. The north-east monsoon brings rain to the northern and eastern regions during the December and January months. The country has the January month as the coolest one, making people, especially those in the highlands, to wear woolens. May month, is the hottest. |
