Sri Lanka is located between 5 and 10 north latitude resulting in Sri Lanka climate being typically tropical with the average temperature hovering around 27°C. It is cooler on the higher altitudes. As the climate Sri Lanka is normally bright, sunny, warm days even during the height of the monsoon there is no off season here. The country receives south west monsoon mainly in the months from May to July to the western, southern and central parts of the island. The north-east monsoon brings rain to the northern and eastern regions during the December and January months. The country has the January month as the coolest one, making people, especially those in the highlands, to wear woolens. May month, is the hottest.

Sri Lanka climate sees the humidity levels generally higher in the southwest and mountainous regions and which depends on the seasonal patterns of rainfall. The country has diverse range of climatic conditions. The south and west has a monsoon in May and an inter-monsoon in October when rain and thunderstorms can occur. In the monsoon season the country experiences the rain which fall for longer periods and is little heavier.

The Climate Sri Lanka allows the best time to travel to this land is the main rainy seasons. From November to April is the driest season on the south west coast and up in the hills. The country is blessed with some of the best beaches and many other places of tourist interest are located. Therefore, period between November and April is the best time to visit this region and this period is also considered as tourist season in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a round-the-year destination and there is always a good time to visit at least some part of the country.
