Hambantota

Hambantota city Sri Lanka is located in southern coastal area of Sri Lanka. It is the capital of the district Hambantota in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Situated just about 240 km from the capital Colombo it is considered to be a traveler’s haven. Recent developments have turned this city into a full fledged holiday resort area. The city stands on a sandy headland. On the seaward side one will find a huge fleet of outrigger fishing canoes drawing up, and the horizon is almost always dotted with their small triangular sails.

The sweeping sandy beaches on either side make the city a convenient base for exploring Bundala National Park. On a visit to Hambantota city Sri Lanka one will also like to visit the Ruhuna National Park and the temples at Kataragama. There has been an increase in human activities which ahs resulted in the recent damages on the coastal sand dunes. Two primary causes for this is the removal of sand and landscaping of dunes for housing construction.
