City Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka, deriving its name from Sinhala name Kola-amba-thota meaning "harbour with leafy mango trees". The Colombo map is located on the southwest coast adjacent to the present administrative capital of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. History of city Colombo goes back to the 18th century when the city saw Arab traders settling here and Dutch building a fort in the 17th century which slowly gained interest of the subsequent colonial rulers. After the city’s rapid urbanization traces of its’ early history have been removed but still some of the early British era buildings still remain in the Fort area. City Colombo is Sri Lanka’s largest city, and one of the busiest ports in the South Asia. The city offers number of casinos, bars, night clubs and pubs making it a hot destination for its nightlife and entertainment activities in the Asian markets. The city has witnessed an entertainment high and greater economic growth after the end of hostilities between the Government and Tamil Tiger rebels in 2002.
