Valencia is an ancient port city of Eastern Spain on the Mediterranean coast. It is the third largest city in Spain and one of the richest farming regions in the Mediterranean basin producing oranges, rice, grapes and olives. The city has a fine-art gallery and a large modern aquarium. The picturesque city is an active commercial and industrial hub offering fine textiles, metal products, chemicals, automobiles, furniture, toys, and colored tiles. It has museums, cafes, restaurants, shops and architectural wonders that never cease to astonish the visitors. Valencia Spain has Mediterranean climate with warm dry summers and mild winters. The weather in August is extremely hot and humid. The fall months of September and October see the weather permitting a lot of beach outings. Winters witness relatively mild temperatures but tourists generally find it a bit cold to sunbathe at the beach. Spring is the loveliest time to visit the area and you will see life at its sprightly best during this time on the streets. Valencia Spain City is a charming old city that is well worth a visit. There are number of landmarks such as La Seo, the Torres de Serranos and the Gothic silk exchange, called La Lonja that attracts a large number of visitors from different parts of the world. 14th-century fortified towers built on Roman foundations and the 18th-century palace of justice are the perfect examples of some of the rich architecture of the city. The other attraction is the massive architectural project by Santiago Calatrava called ‘The City of Arts and Sciences’. During festival season, tourists need to book their accommodation in Valencia in advance. March is the peak season when a fantastic festival called ‘Fallas’ known for fireworks is celebrated. The fireworks convert the city into a virtually war zone for a week. Tourists heading towards a Valencia Gateway do so for its nightlife. There are numerous restaurants, bars and dance joints in this area which tend to cater to a youngish crowd. One can gather information on the nightspots from the various Valencia Tourist Information centers. Barrio Carmen is a major nightlife destination where you come across popular night clubs such as ‘Radio City’ playing a variety of music and ‘Café Infanta’ which is a bar and café having a terrace crowded with Hollywood stuff. If you want to experiment with Valencia Recipe try the local “Paella”. This is a tasty rice dish which comes in a variety of styles, some with meat while some come with fish or seafood. The Malvarosa beach area is one area where you can get some authentic Paella made only with fresh ingredients, in an iron special pan and using a fire made with wood -not gas or electricity. |
