Castellon is a province in Spain also known as Castellon de la Plana. The length of the province stretches almost 112 kilometers along the Mediterranean Coast of Spain. It is at the coast that the area known as “Costa Azahar” is formed. 0pportuniites abound for the tourists to the region. The area is one of the most mountainous provinces in the entire area of Spain. Travelers to the area will be delighted at the variety of possible opportunities available for them such as rural tourism, mountain walks and sleepy villages. With such a variety of options one need not feel that one is going to be bored. Thousands of tourists throng the beautiful well maintained beaches which stretch along the ‘Costa Azahar’. All these activities are responsible for making Castellon Spain into a hub of tourism for the region. Apart from tourism, the city is also well renowned for ceramics and agriculture. These two industries also figure prominently on the agenda of the population. The city is known for its historical importance dating back to the medieval times (13th century). In recent times it has gained popularity for the intermingling of both modern and historical factors. Tourists generally are directed to view some ancient buildings such as the old quarter around the Plaza Mayor, the Plaza de Santa Clara and the Plaza de la Pescaderia. Walking is an activity many locals and tourists prefer indulging in the city as the size of the city is not very large. Moreover, its streets being lined with orange trees make it a very pleasant affair. On a stroll around the old quarter one gets to see Gothic and renaissance buildings. And, a walk along the Avenida Rey Don Jaime exposes one to a totally different perspective known about the city, its modern buildings and shops. Most travelers are advised not to miss a visit to the ‘Fadri’. To see some interesting ornate carvings make a visit to the Saint Miquel Palace located strategically between ‘la Lonja’ and the ‘Plaza Mayor’. |
