Barcelona is one of the most popular cities and tourist destinations in Spain. There are plenty of historic sites, museums, concert halls and gardens in Barcelona that draw millions of visitors all year around. The city prides itself for having hosted Olympic Games in 1992. This event, in itself, produced many extensive changes to the city, including parks, museums, roads, and urban development. In the recent times, the city has seen a phenomenal growth. Barcelona is a diverse and historically rich city. Its history dates back to the 2nd Century BC. As early as the fourth century BCE, Barcelona’s cycle of invasions began. And with each new conqueror came visible influence on the city’s culture, politics, and architecture. Around the year 250 BCE, the Carthaginians were the first to settle in the north-astern corner of the Iberian Peninsula. It was one Carthaginian, Amilcar Barca, who founded the city and is credited for its original name, Barcino. Romans took over the Peninsula, along with Barcino, by the first century BCE, bringing with them architecture that is still visible within the city today. The city is known for its various tourist attractions including Gothic Quarter, Cathedral of Barcelona, art galleries, artisan boutiques, shops, and restaurants. Today, this city is well-built, well-structured, and well-planned. Various industries have thrived up to attract FDI to give this city a modern outlook. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain. The city also boasts of decent nightlife, with its numerous cafes, restaurants, pubs and discothèques. Hotels in Barcelona serve an ideal base to enjoy your Barcelona tour. The city has more than 80 large and small hotels, which provide comfortable accommodation that range from luxurious to the basic level. |
