Located at 182 kilometers from Valencia, Alicante is one of the most well-known cities on the Costa Blanca. Historically, the town was founded in 324 BC by the Greeks, who named it Akra Leuke (White Peak). Between 718 and 1249, the city was ruled by the Moors. Over the years, the city was besieged by the French in 1709 and 1812, and later by the Federalists of Cartagena in 1873.

Despite several man-made and natural catastrophes such as, flood, Spanish Civil War, etc., Alicante is one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain today. Its economy is based upon tourism in the beaches from Costa Blanca coast, wine production, services and administration. It exports wine, olive oil, and fruit, and has light industries, including food-processing, leather, textiles, and pottery. Turrones (torrons in Catalan) - a honey and almond nougat - is a food specialty of Alicante. Because of its tourist visitors and the local population it is easy to find all sort of facilities, sports, leisure, commercial, etc.

El Barrio is one of the most popular areas of Alicante, it is situated in the old quarter of the city and it is the meeting point for nightlife, you will find many restaurants, bars and taverns. In this old quarter of the city you will also find historic remains (like medieval walls) that coexist perfectly with some modern infrastructures. In summer, music Festivals are held in the Old Port square.
