History events in Korea are many.

  • Lunar New Year: In January/February one has what is known as Seollal- the lunar New Year. This is the first day of the first moon.
  • Cherry Blossom Festival: As far as current events in Korea are concerned, the most prominent is the Cherry Blossom Festival in Jinhae in Gyeongsangnam province which usually falls in early April when the weather is more conducive and the trees as a matter of speaking ‘co-operate’.
  • Lantern Parades: Somewhere in late April or early May, Lantern parades are held on the occasion of Lord Buddha’s birthday. Seoul sees an evening parade from Yeo-eui-do Plaza to Jogyesa on the Sunday before the actual day.
  • Dano Festival: In case you are visiting in June you will be amazed by the processions of shamans and mask dances at the Dano Festival.
  • National Folk Arts Festival: The National Folk Arts Festival showcasing Korean culture is held in September.
  • The biggest festival is reserved for September/October when the cities are generally empty throughout the country as almost everyone returns to their family homes to pay homage to their ancestors.
