Ballater Scotland is a lovely Victorian town, at about 10 miles west of Aboyne and eight miles east of Balmoral. The city is known best for its links with Queen Victoria, was founded at the beginning of the 19th century, to take care of the visitors arriving at the nearby Pannanich Wells spa. The Ballater tourism rose as the tourist resort began in the 19th century when Ballater spring water was believed to cure scrofula, a form of tuberculosis. As the popularity spread, the spa town developed. Though this style has gone out of fashion, one can still find water, still a highly lucrative commodity. Bottled water is available from the Pannanich Wells all over Ballater.

Situated within the Cairngorms National park, provides with an excellent base for hiking and the pursuit of other outdoor adventures for the visitors. The region is beautifully surrounded by wooded hills of birch and fir in the Eastern Highlands. Ballater tourism got a new lease of life with the arrival of a new railway line in the 19th century. This new railway line brought in holidaymakers and tourist pounds to other villages in Scotland, but Ballater was the more privileged one. Royal family and their guests along with other visitors used the railway station for about 100 years, to enjoy the lovely surroundings.

Ballater Scotland celebrates it well known Victoria Week, at the start of August and this is the best time to visit the city. For the whole of the week it is sheer family fun, where in visitors to Ballater can also watch the Ballater Highland Games, which are held annually on the second Thursday in August. Besides this the month of May Ballater hosts two popular events, the Ballater Walking Festival and the Royal Deeside Golf Week held at Ballater Golf Club. During a visit to the city, one will come across many of the fine houses that have been turned into hotels and guesthouses and the town also supports an extraordinarily high concentration of good restaurants.
