Dating back to the Roman period, Setubal is the third largest port in Portugal. Well sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean and lying to the south of Lisbon, Setubal Portugal is an attractive destination which is full of pedestrian streets, gardens and fabulous shops. Reserva Natural do Estuario do Sado is a nature reserve park that lies to the south and west of Setubal Portugal. You would find the 16th Century Franciscan Monastery on the 300 meters high slope is the solitary attraction in the deserted natural greenery. It is one of the most beautiful views in Europe. When you are close to the beach, you will find a fort that dates back to 17th century and house a small sea and marine biology center. On the old road to Algarve, the town of Alcácer do Sal lies to eth south on the old road to the Algarve. The castle and the Convento de Santo António built in the 16th century got destroyed in an earthquake. Now the castle has been converted into a comfortable Pousada for the visitors who wish to stay there overnight. To the immediate north of Setubal city Portugal is town of Palmela. The high walls of the castle are on the crown of its hill.
