Situated in the county of Østfold, Norway, Sarpsborg is a city and municipality which was founded by the Viking King Olav Haraldsson (Saint Olav) in 1016. Most parts of the old city unfortunately landed in the river Glomma between 1200 and 1400 due to a mudslide. It was rebuilt at a safer location but all over again burnt down to the ground in 1567 by the Swedish invaders. Sarpsborg City Norway was re-established and its population reached 50,000 in 2005. Established in 1889 in the southeastern town of Sarpsborg in Østfold County, Borregaard Industries is the most important industry of the city whose main products were traditionally pulp and paper. Sarpsborg City Norway is also known for the Borg Bryggerier - part of the Hansa Borg Bryggerier - Norway's second largest brewery group. In the 1960s, Sarpsborg was famous for its football team, Sarpsborg FK, but is now more famous for its hockey team, Sparta Warriors. In football, Sparta Sarpsborg has taken over the local throne, currently playing on the 2nd highest national level. Sarpsborg City Norway has treasures and pleasures for all kinds of moods and tastes. This beautiful city bowls over tourists with its beauty and charm and is too special to be rushed. |
