Sandnes

Centrally located in the Jæren region at the innermost point of Gandsfjord on Sandnes City Map, Sandnes covers an area of 302,0 km2 of which 296,0 km2 is dry land and 6,0 km2 are islands and sea. It is the ninth largest city on Map Sandnes with a population of approximately 57,620 inhabitants. Sandnes is a modern and rapidly expanding city emphasizing refreshing outdoor experiences, good shopping opportunities and cultural events for its visitors. The city is a haven for hikers and bicycle riders with miles and miles of bicycle paths. Moreover, Norway's best bicycle route, the North Sea Cycle Route, passes through Sandnes. There are 200 city bicycles that can be used free of charge for city excursions in Sandnes city center.

There are plenty of opportunities for hikers with well-marked trails in the city. For art admirers, Sandnes Kunstforening (Sandnes Art Association) has an indoor and outdoor summer exhibition in the park at Skeianetunet. It is situated on the outskirts of Sandveparken, a gem for ramblers and cyclists. Havanna Badeland - a swimming pool and leisure hub - on the eastern side of Gandsfjorden is a favorite among children and young people. The 7,000 square meters of pools hold a total of 1 million liters of water. Old and young alike can enjoy tropical water temperatures all year round. Water slides, a wave pool, canals and waterfalls are just a few of the things the park offers. There are plenty of adventures and challenges waiting for you.

Melshei is perhaps the best location in Sandnes for outdoor activities like training and skiing on the lighted trail. There is also a broad network of smaller trails for the beginners. The city has excellent fishing lakes like Stokkelandsvatnet, Bråsteinsvatnet and Lutsivatnet, as well as the river Figgjoriver. Visitors are allowed to fish in the numerous lakes and rivers either by buying a fishing license or by making agreements directly with the property owners. Sunbathing, swimming, wind surfing, wave surfing and miles and miles of white sandy beaches, it’s simply irresistible for you.
