Roros

Røros is one of the oldest towns in Europe. It is also the transportation and trade center of southern Norway. Roros City Norway boasts a rare collection of large and well-preserved wooden buildings. The distinctive low wooden houses, the history, the atmosphere and the experiences have a unique flavor which is a rare sight for the visitors. Downtown Roros is wonderfully preserved and protected. Roros Norway town center has found a place in UNESCO's World Heritage List on line with other cultural treasures like the buildings in Versailles and the pyramids of Egypt. It is one of the few mining towns in the world that is well-known for its craftsmen, charming shops, courtyards and workshops.

Roros Norway has only few attractions but they are sufficient to hold the attention of the visitors. “Bergstadens Ziir” is one such sight and a fascinating church which was built in 1784. It is the fourth largest church in the country, with 1,600 seats. The Directorate of Cultural Heritage considers it to be amongst the ten most important churches in Norway. Its interior is skillfully decked with sky-blue marble patterns. Instead of saints, there are paintings of all directors of the mining company, and their fascinating stories. This 250-year-old church organizes exquisite baroque music which has its own smell and taste.

Roros City Norway is a tourist spot and a winter sports center. It offers a variety of horse tours in summer and winter. Those visiting the place can enjoy dog sledging which is an experience you will never forget. Riding through the mountains behind a team of well-trained dogs is an amazing experience. Protected birch forests and mountains covered in heather and moss, with paths and tracks once used for mining and farming, are the setting for the riding tours. Ride around the center of Røros in a horse-drawn carriage during summer, or take an exotic sleigh-ride, with torches, bells and something nice to drink through the town streets or into the countryside. Cardamom City and other attractions including Kristiansand zoo - located about eleven miles east of the city - are popular among locals and tourists.
