Drammen

The city of Drammen is the capital of a county, Buskerud in the Southeast Norway. Located about 40 kilometers from the capital of Norway, Oslo, Drammen city Norway is one of the largest cities in Norway. The city center is situated at the head of the Drammensfjord and at the mouth of the Dramselva River. Its pleasant geographical location made the city a hub for seafaring, ship building, log driving, timber trade, paper and pulp industries. The town manufactures a variety of products including forest goods, plastics, textiles, leather goods, and beer. It is also a leading commercial and fishing port and a trade and industrial center. Moreover, the city acts as the main port for car and fruit import in Norway.

Drammen city Norway once consisted of three small seaports - Bragernes on the northern side of the Drammenselva River and Strømsø and Tangen on the southern side. All the ports were categorized according to their size and function. Small seaports were sited under market towns for trade purposes. Irrespective of their geographical closeness, Bragernes was placed under Christiania and Strømsø under Tønsberg. Consequently, the cooperation between the adjacent seaport towns was not possible. The amalgamation of Strømsø and Bragernes to form a market town with the name Frederiksstrøm was proposed in the year 1662 for the smooth functioning of the ports.

Since Drammen is mainly a port city, there is nothing more to see and do in the city. Still you can manage and find ways to enjoy yourself in this unique area. The Spirlen - a passage of six turns inside a mountain leading to the walk ways - is a must visit. The viewpoint at the top is spellbound and will mesmerize you without any doubt. The other notable sight is Drammen museum which worth a quick look. It will not take more than an hour to notice some of the exquisite art collection.
