Asgardstrand Norway is a nice cozy town located on the shores of the fjord, to the southeast of Horten. The seaside resort has made a mark for itself amongst the tourists for the peaceful and cozy atmosphere and ambience that it offers. Till the year 1965 it was accorded city status after which it was split between the municipalities of Horten and Tonsberg. Asgardstrand city in Norway was originally founded as a center for shipwrights and lumber in the 16th century. In due course of time it gradually made a mark as a hot favorite for tourists to Norway.
The renowned artists associated with Asgardstrand are Edvard Munch, Christian Krogh and Hans Heyerdahl. In fact, Edvard Munch had made the city his home for many years. It was while he was here that he painted the famous “Girl on the Bridge”. These Norwegian painters were excellent in their profession and were also good printmakers and draughts men. Their paintings were especially emotive and expressed emotions and personal relationships. The paintings and woodcuts are excellent symbols of expressionism.
