Alta

Famous as the City of the Northern light, Alta is located in the north of Norway. It is a sheltered oasis in the cold and inhospitable Finnmark landscape with lush, green surroundings and friendly people. The fascinating town has several places of tourist interest. Alta Museum is one such place located near Northern Europe's largest and richest rock carving range, drawing numerous sightseers. The museum is a UNESCO's World Heritage Site that received "European Museum of the Year Award" in 1993. You could enjoy a truly special experience and unexpected comfort by spending a night at the Northern Light Iglo, which is a unique hotel made in ice. Even the glasses in bar are made out of ice. You get a warm sleeping bag on a bed of snow, with comfortable reindeer skins, enclosed by ice and snow. Built in 1899, Haldde at Mt. Sukkertoppen is the world's oldest permanent northern lights observatory that catches the attraction of the world.
