  • Mani Rimdu- it takes place at Thyangbache monastery, every year. During its celebration, Buddhist monks enact an ancient story. The performers wear intricately woven brocade costumes with beautifully crafted papier mache masks. They perform the Buddhism triumph over Bon. This festival is also celebrated for three days at Chiwang Gompa.
  • Tibetan New Year at Bodhnath stupa- the scenes of this festival is stunning. Celebrations take place around Kathmandu, Pokhara and in Buddhist highland areas. Parades are held, Buddhist monks give blessings and families have day off to worship together. The New Year celebration is unique and memorable.
  • Democracy day- it is one of the few non-religious festivals in Nepal. It is a national holiday when people line the streets of all major towns to watch the lavish parades and join the rallies. It is celebrated in the month of February.
  • Holi- it is celebrated generally in the month of March. People wear old clothes and embrace each other. It is celebrated widely with people hurling buckets of colors at each other. It is the festival of colors.
  • Bisket festival- it is celebrated in the month of April, for the start of Nepali New year.
  • The ‘Annapurna Circuit’- it is the name of the 300 kilometers trek in the Annapurna mountain range. It follows the trade route between Tibet and Nepal. It is in the month of Jan-Feb.
  • Buddha Jayanti- this triple festival celebrating the birth, enlightment and death of the Buddha is in the month of May. Statues of Buddha are carried in procession by maroon clad monks. Devotional lights and candles are flickered to illuminate these awesome parades.
