Climate of Nepal shows a great deal of variation. Within the region of Terai, exists tropical and subtropical climates and outside it, the climate is entirely different. It is because of high range of altitude within north-south distance. Altitude also affects precipitation or annual rainfall and therefore, in different parts of the country, different amount of rainfall can be experienced. Nepal climate is also influenced by towering Himalayas as it blocks the moist tropical air from Bay of Bengal and thus, causes rain in the summers. It also prevents the flow of cold air from Inner Asia to northern portion of India and Nepal, hence responsible for warmer winters. In the winter, one can come find short rainfalls in the lowlands and plains and snowfalls. Sometimes, the secondary winter precipitation can be in the form of snowfalls in the Himalayas.
