Palenque

Palenque Mexico is an archaeological site beside the Usumacinta River in the Chiapas state of Mexico just about 130 km south of Ciudad Del Carmen. The site though medium sized and smaller compared to many other sites is home to some fine architecture, sculpture and carvings of bas-relief that has no parallel. The weather is hot and humid and Palenque is surrounded by jungles. One can enjoy various excursions in Chiapas and also go to Guatemala from here.

The Palenque cities are in close proximity to the ruins of the ancient Maya city of Palenque. One can be assured that a visit to these ruins is well worth a visit. It is in the early morning that one will be most impressed because it is during this time that one will find the air and view clear with mist surrounding the temples and ruins later in the day. The other attractions close to Palenque Mexico are the Agua Azul colorful cascades, the crystal clear river at Agua Clara and the waterfall at Misol-Ha. The airport here is chiefly used by private aircraft though the feeder lines of Mexicana and Aero Mexico planes also have regular scheduled services. One can visit the ‘Temple of the Inscriptions’ to view Pacal’s impressive sarcophagus which was discovered in the early 1950’s.

The tourist attractions of Palenque include the ‘National Park’. Here you get to view a wide ranging of pyramids, temples and structures that have been found at this well known historical archaeological site. To view a waterfall attraction one can visit and have a look around Cascadas de Agua Azul.
