Mazatlan Mexico is located in the state of Sinaloa on the Pacific coast and is across the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula. Mazatlan founded in the 1820s means “place of the deer”. Mazatlan was developed into a thriving commercial seaport by the immigrant Germans who imported equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. The music, Banda, was also influenced by an alteration of Bavarian folk music. It is today one of the most popular tourist destinations with Mazatlan beaches completely lined with resort hotels. Mazatlan Mexico gained further popularity when it hosted the annual baseball tournament, the "Serie Del Caribe", in 2005 with participation of teams from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Here, during the week before Ash Wednesday, Carnival is celebrated. One can indulge in a lot of festivities which includes the election of a Queen, parades, and balls. The Mardi Gras held here is supposedly the third largest in the world after the celebrations held in Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans. One can spend time doing many other things in Mazatlan Mexico if one is not content on spending one’s entire visit on the Mazatlan beaches. Moving around on a city tour and harbor cruise ensures one gets a good idea about the things to do in Mazatlan. The major highlights of the city being spread out, this tour saves one time from searching for the main points of interest. The chief points of stoppage in the tour include the downtown market, Old Mazatlan and the waterfront area. The tour departs daily at 10 am and 3 pm. One also has the option of taking a morning “Fiesta Cruise” around the harbor and enjoy the views of Mazatlan’s bustling harbor while enjoying a sip of cool drink. Each of the three islands dotting Mazatlan’s horizon has its own personality. They are quiet and undisturbed and one will find them just perfect for water sports. One also gets the opportunity for enjoying some bird watching as hundreds of species nest on the island. |
