Ixtapa

Ixtapa Mexico is strategically located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico on the La Costa Grande coast. Though Ixtapa beach has not as yet attained a lot of popularity it still is a major area of attraction with attractions like a resort complete with high-rise hotels, exclusive designer shops, elaborate restaurants and happening nightclubs. It is in the area of Zihuatanejo that one will taste a more authentic Mexican flavor in a large selection of inexpensive restaurants. Its natural bay is surrounded by many beaches. In combination with Ixtapa it provides the best of both worlds to tourists on vacation. Ixtapa Mexico is a totally government planned initiative at a tourist resort which was begun in the early 1970s. It was in the early days an old world Mexican fishing village which nestled around a small bay. Some pretty beaches dotted the bay then. The old world fashioned charm of traditional Mexican culture is one of its plus points. The residents have been from the initial days been dependent on fishing and even today fishing holds great importance. The development of the area into a sport fishing destination has further added impetus to their means of livelihood.

The tourists can indulge in many popular activities which include scuba diving, surfing, and deep sea fishing. Ixtapa Mexico plays host to a major annual winter off shore tournament which is held at the Port of Zhihuatanejo. Golf is also high on the list of recreational activities for the tourists to this destination. Ixtapa beach holds surprise by offering great whale watching at the time of annual migration during the winter months. Those interested in the history of the area can experience some of it at the regional archaeological museum. The tourists who like to enjoy some extra activities in the night time can enjoy some vibrant fun and active nightlife in the many night clubs and intimate bars.
