Isla Holbox Mexico is just about 26 miles (42 km) long and strategically located to the northwest of the state of Cancun, Mexico. A shallow lagoon separates the city from Mexico’s mainland coast. Here thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds as well as creatures are given sanctuary. Fishing is the main source of livelihood in Isla Holbox. Don’t be surprised if you do not see too many cars doing the rounds of the city’s roads. The Mayas inhabited the city before the advent of the Spanish.  The coconut plantations have for long been the staple plantation of the city and the richness of the surrounding sea has developed the city into an important area of fishing activity.

The change of tone of the sea water from turquoise blue to emerald blue is a sight to watch in quiet contemplation.
