Baja California Mexico is situated to the northernmost part of the state of Mexico. Many a times it is called as Baja California Norte so as not to confuse it with the Baja California peninsula. Initially known as the Territory of Baja California Norte it encompasses an area of about 71, 576 square kilometers. The Pacific Ocean is to the west side borer of the state while on the east is Sonora and the Sea of Cortez. To the south side you have the Baja California Sur and in the northern limit you will come to the U.S.-Mexico border adjacent to the U.S. state of California. More than 75% of the estimated 2,750,000 population lives in Mexicali which is the capital city followed by Tijuana. The original inhabitants of Baja California Mexico are called “Cachanillas”. This is the name given to them after the wild ‘cachanilla’ plant which is well known for its fresh aroma and was used by the original inhabitants to make huts. You will find this to be perhaps one of the least humid places on earth with an intensely dry climate. The diverse geographical area is study of remarkable contrasts.
