Victoria

Victoria is a beautiful town in the island of Gozo which is an island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. Actually Victoria is the name given in 1887 by the British council on the eve of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. But the Gozilians still refer to its previous name Rabat. The main attraction is the Citadella or fortress which has been the centre of activity of the island since pre historic times though it is known to be used during the Bronze age near around 1500 BC. There is a cathedral at the citadel which dates back to 17th century.

It is most famous for the amazing trompe l'oeil painting on its roof, which signifies the interior of a dome that was never built. Much of the talked about historical site lets talk about sports and some more interesting scenarios Victoria takes great pride in its three football clubs that are SK Victoria Wanderers, Victoria Hotspurs and Oratory Youths. In the city there is also gym that host many specialized equipment for training. Victoria Malta is known for the feasts celebrated in the island of Gozo, the main feast is dedicated to St George and another one dedicated to St Mary devotional in its cathedral located in the centre of the citadel.
