Maldives Events

People celebrate large number of Maldives events throughout the year ranging form religious events to cultural events in the island of Maldives. These events are infested along with social and cultural features of the region. The events in Maldives are adorned with the color of the seasons and the spirits of people of Maldives as these are direct representation of the cultural and traditional heritage of the country.

Much have heard about the cultural and historical events in Maldives. Majority of these events are religious in nature, which are celebrated according to the Islamic calendar of the year. These all events are based on lunar cycles. The mist important or the chief event in Maldives is Ramadan, which is a month of fasting for the Muslims followed by a great feast.

Other chief events are Eid and Prophet’s birthday. Special customs are followed in the Eid, which include drumbeat from ‘Nabuskhan’, a place where the announcement of special events take place along with drums in addition to the official procession of the sultan to the Eid prayers, accompanied by music and military displays. New clothes are worn and games are played while celebrating this day. On Prophet’s birthday, special Arabic verses praising Prophet are sung and special food is prepared.

The other important event is Huravee Day. This day commemorates the great rebel Sultan Hassan Izzudin, who freed Maldives from the control of the South Indians. The other important event of Maldives is their Republic day, celebrated on 11 Nov, ever year.
