Male

Male, the capital and largest city of Maldives, is one of its admistrative divisions. It is known as King’s island as Maldives royal dynasties rules from this place and many palaces are located. It is a walled city surrounded by fortification and gates. At the time of remodeling, the city palaces and the forts were destroyed. Inspite of geographical location of Male Maldives in Male Atoll, it is not considered a part of it.

This town is divided into four divisions: - Maafannu, Galolhu, Henveiru and Macchangolhi. The word Maldives means ‘the islands of Male’ i.e. the whole group of islands is named after its capital.
