Lhaviyani Atoll, Male or so called as Faadhippolhu Atoll is an administrative division of the Maldives. Out of 54 islands on this island, only four are inhabited. The capital of this atoll is Naifaru, which has good harbor facilities, hospital, school and medical facilities. There is a canning industry located on one of its islands, Felivaru. The island of Hinnavaru, located about 8 km to north of Naifaru has similar population as that in capital. Both these islands are well known for the fishing in this Atoll. Canning industry provides some employment to the people of this Atoll, though majority of these are imported labor. This atoll has also contributed lot in appreciating tourism to the region. A massive land reclamation project has started to fulfill the developmental needs of the island. The lowest populated island of this Atoll is Olhuvelifushi There are myriad of dive sites in this Atoll. Fahigiri reek consisting of caves housing harlequin, squirrelfish, soldierfish and harlequin is one of the main dive sites. Diving is safe at this reef for both beginners and advanced divers. Kanuhuraa Kandu offers experience in drift diving and challenges divers for diving here. The best place to find Napoleon wrasse, manta and snapper is Fushhifaru Thila. One can swim with colorful fishes and explore the hidden treasure of underwater realm. Visit Lhaviyani Atoll and experience the colorful marine world and chilling water. |
