Of the Malaysia events some are religious and solemn but the remaining events are lively and joyous. The people of Malaysia follow the ‘open house’ custom for their festivals. Thaipusam – January
Taipusam is an extraordinary festival of the Malaysia events which takes place at the Batu caves in Selangor, or in Penang. The tourists can witness the sights and sounds of thousands of devotees carrying kavadis, or ornate frames as penance.
Chinese New Year –February
Chinese celebrate the Lunar New Year throughout the world and in this part of the world it’s just as joyful with a wealth of food and family gatherings. During this time friends and relatives exchange "angpows" - red packets with a gift of cash as a token of prosperity. To celebrate the festival feasts and lion dances to ward off evil spirits takes place and thus usher in the lunar New Year.
Malaysia Water Festival - April to May
Malaysia water festival is celebrated for a whole month. One will see the country, with water-based activities taking place all over and a splashing good time joining in a host of aquatic sports.
Vesak – May
This religious event witness’s religious offerings and rituals such as the ‘bathing of the Buddha’, chanting of sutras, and lighting of joss sticks and ordination of monks in Buddhist temples around the country.
Colors of Malaysia - May to June
Witness the event of Colors of Malaysia to get a feel of the diversity of Malaysian culture. This event is started with a colorful parade presenting the Malaysian culture through music and dance.
Food and Fruits Fiesta – July

National Day - 31 August
It is the country’s Independence Day when the Malaysians celebrate with parades and shows. For this grand time all the towns and cities in Malaysia are decorated with lights.
Lantern & Mooncake Festival (Mid-Autumn) – September
During this festival the tourist are for a treat where can take delight in the colorful lanterns displayed and enjoy the variety of mooncakes available. Today, this festival has come to denote a quiet celebration of peace and shared success.
Malaysia Fest- September
For the period of two weeks, all the major hotels and shopping complexes come together to feature the culture, cuisine and handicrafts of the various states in Malaysia. The country celebrates it's independence on 31 August with parades and shows. Towns and cities throughout Malaysia will be gaily decorated and adorned with lights for the grand occasion.
Deepavali – November
It’s the most celebrated of Hindu festivals. It’s known as the "Festival of Lights" which is the celebration marking the victory of good over evil. To celebrate this Hindus decorate their homes with oil lamps, taking a ritual morning bath and offering traditional prayers in temples. All the Hindu homes are adorned with lights to signify this triumph during the festival time.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri – November
During the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Muslims welcomes the New Year with prayers in the mosques and then receives well-wishers in their homes. This festival is takes place after the holy month of Ramadan ends and the month’s long fasting ends.
Christmas - 25 December
As the Christmas festival is celebrated around the world so is in Malaysia by the Malaysian Christians. It’s time for family dinners along with exchanging of gifts. Midnight services takes place at churches on the Christmas Eve. Throughout, the country shopping centers, hotels, old folk’s homes and at children's homes one will hear beautiful carols. The partying spirit of Christmas is enjoyed by Christians and non-Christians alike.
Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival- March, August and December
this is the most celebrated of Malaysia events and most popular among the locals as well as the tourists. It provides with great opportunities to satisfy ones’ every pleasure in this month-long shopping carnivals. It takes place in Kuala Lumpur and other urban centers in the country. The period during this Sale is the best time to shop and pick up loved stuff and that too at fantastic discounts and mind-boggling bargains.
