Jordan has been home to some of mankind’s earliest settlement and villages. Jordan history has remained very rich and has made it a prized possession. It was the habitat to many of the great civilizations in the world. Jordan has been an important place connecting Asia, Africa and Europe. Some of the western cultures such as Byzantine, Macedonian and Roman empires also left their mark. Since seventh century, Jordan has been under the Muslim and Arab rule except a brief period of British rule.

Jordan’s Hashemite Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with representative government. King governs the region with the help of chief executive and commander-in-chief. He exercises his authority through prime minister and council of Minister. History on Jordan in ancient times can be traced back to the Kingdom of Petra and slowly and gradually became the part of Arab Islamic empire across its different stages including Rashidun Empire, Abbasid Empire and Umayyad Empire. Later it was ruled by Crusades, Mongols, Mamluk, Ayyubid and Ottoman Empire.

After the Ottoman Empire and the end of 1st World war, started the league of nation and other powers redraw the borders of the Middle East and formed French mandate of Syria and British mandate of Palestine, which later called out to be “Transjordan”. Israeli, Arabs and Jews went to war with one another and the Transjordan snapped and renamed itself Jordan. In 1950, it annexed the West Bank and exchanged the land between Jordan and Saudi Arabia in 1965. In 1967, there was dramatic increase in the number of Palestinians. After the regular battles with one or the other force, in 2000, Jordan government offered its good offices and sought to remain at peace with all of its neighbors. History of Jordan is famous for the number of rulers and powers in force.
