Petra, an archaeological site in Jordan, is one of the new wonders of the world. It was described as ‘a red-rose city half as old as time’. It has been designated as a World Heritage site. And UNESCO has described it as ‘one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage’. Carved out into the rocks and protected by rugged mountains on all sides, Petra, Jordan is one of the most famous sites in the region. At one time it was known as the Valley of Musa or Wadi Musa. Petra in Jordan is a staggering landscape of rock-hewn monuments, palaces, amphitheatres, carvings and arched gateways spread n the entire region. The Petra’s most famous monuments, the Treasury or Al-Khazneh, is carved into a solid rock of the pink mountain face. Its second most fabulous structure is the Monastery situated among the desert scenery high up on the mountains.
