Hiroshima is the largest city of the Chugoku region and is home to about a million people. This, in spite of the History of Hiroshima, being witness to the Hiroshima bomb, which saw an estimated 200,000 civilians lose their lives. The History of Hiroshima has ever since revolved around the promotion of peace. Hiroshima has now proudly built the “Peace Park”, a memorial museum, a major tourist attraction. Another major tourist attraction is the island of Miyajima which literally translated means “the shrine island”. Miyajima is renowned as one of the most scenic spots of Hiroshima providing fabulous views and is famous for the Itsukushima Shrine. The shrine along with its large wooden gate stands tall in the ocean during high tide as well. Here one can see deer’s moving around freely. Climb to the top of the island and you come to Misen where one will find monkeys roaming around freely. Many tourists prefer to stay overnight in one of the hotels in Hiroshima so that they can stroll the streets in the evening to enjoy the beautiful sight of the illuminated shrine. One has got to spend an evening here to actually feel the romantic pulse as the island becomes very romantic in the evening. |
