In the northern part of Italy one finds the affluent town of Reggio Emilia located in the Emilia-Romagna region. Over 150000 inhabitants inhabit the city which is the main commune (municipality) of the Reggio Emilia Province. The official name of the town is ‘Reggio nell’Emilia’. The inhabitants of the city are called ‘Reggiani’. The town is somewhat hexagonal in shape and form derived from the ancient walls. The main buildings have been built in the XVI – XVIII centuries. The territory of the commune town is on a plain and the Crostolo stream crosses it. Since the early days, Reggio Emilia has forever been a flourishing city and was always a ‘Municipium’ with statutes, magistrates and art collegia of its own. Christianity was brought into the town many centuries ago. It was around the end of the 11th century or just the beginning of the 12th century that Reggio was made into a free commune. The town witnessed periods of great peace and prosperity from the 11th century onwards. The Basilica della Ghiara is famous in the city and it has been constructed at about the end of the 16th century. Another worth watching monument is ‘The Baroque Church of San Giorgio’. One will be quite impressed by the “Tricolore’s Room” located in the ‘Town Hall’. This was the place where for the first time the three colors of the Italian flag were adopted. The Piazza San Prospero with the patron saint’s Basilica is an attraction which attracts many people. One can stay in any of the hotels in Ramada Emilia Italy to easily move around the city and enjoy its sights and attractions. One of the most liked religious buildings worth a visit is ‘The Cathedral’ which was reconstructed in the second half of the 16th century and has three naves with excellent works. The most important church of the city is the “Baroque Basilica della Ghiara” built in 1597. There are many innumerable churches to be found in the city. |
