Travel Visa and Passports should be valid for at least six months from time of entry. Even as the UK citizens do not require a passport or visa to enter Ireland, most carriers by air or sea now require some form of legal credentials with photograph, which could either be a passport or a driving license. It is firmly recommended that all nationals, other than those belonging to the EU, hold a return or onward ticket, and must have adequate funds to cover planned period of settlement. If the stay goes beyond the visa free period which is for three months or stay is longer than visa validity, visitors must get in touch with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).

EU nationals are only required to produce a confirmation of their EU nationality and identity in order to enter any EU Member State. This proof can be a valid national passport or national ID card.
