Indonesia Transportation

While driving in Indonesia make sure you know it well that citizens drive on the left-side of the street, as opposed o the right side. The roads are generally narrow and only two cars at a time can move on each side of the roads. Besides, many motorbikes also take on the road so you have to be careful on the Indonesian roads. To drive any Indonesian transportation, be it a car or a motorcycle you are required to have a driving license. International Driving Licenses that is issued by many countries are very much valid in Indonesia.

Modes of transportation in Indonesia include;

If you are traveling in a tourist group you can hire an air-conditioned chartered bus with drivers. Indonesian bus companies provide intercity and inter-province connectivity. The inter-province roads include transportation to other islands primarily between Java and Sumatra. Angkutan kota (mini buses) are also widely available in Indonesia for traveling
  • Taxis: taxis services are available to reach all almost all the cities. These can be found outside railway stations, hotels or at the taxi stands.

  • Trains: PT Kereta Api operates trains across most regions of Java and certain parts of Sumatra. Java boasts of the best railway network, with trains connecting the capital city of Jakarta with other main cities. Bandung can be reached from Jakarta by 30 different trains per day. Bali is devoid of no railway lines, but there are trains from Surabaya to Banyuwangi, connecting with ferryboats to the island.
  • Other kinds of traditional vehicles include: becak, delman or andong.

  • Boats: the archipelago of Indonesia is well connected with ferries that are the most popular means of inter-island traveling. The leading boat company in Indonesia is PELNI, which gets to all inhabited islands in Indonesia. Schedules are notional, creature comforts sparse and safety records poor.
