Pokaran, a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is located in the region of Thar Desert. The city gained the fame when it first served as the test site for India’s first underground nuclear weapon detonation. The other cause of its popularity is the famous fair that is held in the name of the local deity, Baba Ramdev.

The Balagarh, Pokaran fort, built out of remnants of Satelmer Fort, are adorned with delicate feminine arches and latticed screen. Some famous places inside the fort are Mangal Niwas, Phool Niwas, Hawa Mahal, and Rani Mahal. In addition to it, there are grain stores, innumerable wells, beautiful dining hall, large courtyard and a small temple dedicated to Goddesses Durga. Apart from it, there are many museums and temples. Museums house an assortment of pottery, personal antiquities, weapons and paintings of royal kings.

The toys made by the potters from the mud are famous all over the country. The maneating giant Bhairav’s cave and the Kailash Tekri Temple are also huge attractions for the tourists.
