Kohima

Kohima, the hilly capital of India’s north eastern border state of Nagaland, shares its border with Burma. The place is named after the name of the plant, “Kew Hi”, grown on the mountainside. It enjoys the pleasant and moderate climate, which is neither too hot nor too cold in winters. It is a picturesque hill station surrounded by green hills and mountains. The battle of Kohima was fought with Japanese intention of invading India in 1944.

The War Cemetery is well maintained and embellished by two tall crosses against the backdrop of seasonal roses and lush grass. It is a gentle hill depicting the names of every man who sacrificed his life. State museum and sales emporium, in the heart of city, has a good collection of Naga Handlooms and Handicraft items. The Catholic cathedral and Kohima village (the second biggest village in Asia), Dzukou valley, Japfu Peak are some of the excellent places to visit.
