Gandhidham

Gandhidham, a city in the Kachchh district of Indian state of Gujarat, was named after the name of Mahatma Gandhi. It was well planned and prosperous city that was specially built for displaced persons after partition. It is very near to a major port, Kandla, the only free trade zone of the country. It has a moderate climate with pleasant weather conditions. The summers are very hot and dry with cold winters. In summers the temperature rises up to 45°C and in winter it drops down till 2°C.

The district of Gandhidham is well connected to other parts of the country through railways, roadways and airways. One can find many tourists all throughout the year. Some of the main places of tourists’ interest include Bhadreshwar, which is the famous pilgrimage center. It is known for its architecture, where ancient Lord Shiva temple is visible from ground floor with beautiful sculpture chiseled on the outer walls. Khavada is famous for its handicrafts and cattle rearing. From here, Flamingo city can be approached easily. Purneshwar temple is also a famous temple raised on a high plinth and has some fine sculpture.
