Barmer

Barmer is a tiny yet lively town in sun-drenched sands a miniature Rajasthan at its colourful best. Barmer is a desert town just 153 kms from Jaisalmer and has fortresses to boast off. This place is primarily famous for its woodcarving, furniture and interiors, carpets, block printing and embroideries.

Surrounded by barren land with a harsh climate and rugged terrain, Barmer is famous for its rich crafts, dances and music. Once on the ancient camel trade route (silk route), the town is now the center for wood carving, pottery, carpets, intricate embroidery work, block printed fabrics and multi-hued traditional costumes.

The most fascinating part of a trip to Barmer is the journey through rural Rajasthan. The small villages with mud-walled houses decorated with ethnic motifs and the colorfully attired people - a fascinating sight indeed.
