About India India Cities India Hotels India Travel Guide

Bargarh is a city in the Indian state of Orissa. Entirely made up of clandestine rock, it is one of the 14 most stable zones in the world. Included in one of the many forts built by the Chouhan dynasty, it was a subdivision of old Sambalpur district, but sooner it was declared a new district. Bargarh district had a population of 63,651 with literacy rate of 59.5%.

The economy of the district mainly depends upon the agricultural production, though Bargarh is an industrial city with thread, cement and sugar factories. Blessed with natural beauty, Bargarh district comprises Barapahar hills, Debrigarh hills, and lake formed by Mahanadi River. Jira and Jhaun join the main river, Mahanadi, whose tributaries flow across the district. There are natural springs at Nrushinghanath at the foot of Gandhamrdhan hills of Padampur subdivision forming streams flowing in cascades down the steep hill side. Kapil Dhar, Chal Dhar, and Bhim Dhar are three waterfalls, which are considered sacred.

Bargarh holidays can be an interesting trip as there are several places of tourists’ interest. Some of them include Sambalpuri handloom industry in nearby villages. Many nearby residents are awardees for this handloom craft. The place is famous for world’s biggest open air theatre festival, Dhanu Jatra, which is held for 10 days during winters. It is relevant to life story of Lord Krishna. Enjoy your trip to Bargarh district with some natural scenic beauty of mountains, hills, rivers and waterfalls.
