Nestled in the southern part of Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong Island is an important tourist destination and a bustling city in Hong Kong. The island is the political, historical and economic hub of Hong Kong and is known as the Mecca of urban modernity. It was captured by the United Kingdom in the early 1840s, and the City of Victoria was then established on the island. Despite the British influence, the culture here is pure Chinese. Floating restaurants are other major attractions in Aberdeen. Repulse Bay is another popular tourist attraction on the southern side of the island. Some other places of tourist interest in Hong Kong Island include the Central Market, Man Mo Temple, Victoria Peak, Happy Valley, Causeway Bay, Wanchai and Stanley.
