Rothenburg

Rothenburg is located almost 70 miles east of Heidelberg. It literally means "Red Castle on the Tauber River." This city was founded in the year 970 at the time of development of the first castle. The last castle was destroyed in the 14th century, and now the town has a garden in its place. after the year of 1400, Rothenburg had to strive hard to preserve its medieval buildings and fortifications. The market place is quite attractive with the impressive Renaissance facade of the Rathaus with his Baroque arcade. You will see the Gothic part of building with his 120 ft high gable just behind the market place.

This church is a must visit for you. It features altars by Tilman Riemenschneider, one of the greatest German sculptors of the middle Ages.

It was a half-timbered house with the high gable. It got the name Meat and Dance house because until l820, butchers used to sell their meat and sausages here. Nowadays, it holds exhibitions of art work of artist in and around the city.
