Darmstadt Germany is a part of the Bundesland federal state of Hessen, Germany. It can be said that this city is one of the few cities in Germany which is not in close proximity to a river or coast. The Darmstadt Germany map is dotted with chemical industry units as well as science and tertiary education sectors. A literal translation of the German name in English means “City of the Lower Bower”. In the beginning of the 20th century the city had gained prominence as an important centre for the art movement of Jugendstil. The city at that point in time used to hold annual architectural competitions which led to the foundation of many architectural treasures of the period. The time since 1997 has seen the city become home to many technology companies and research institutes which allowed it to be known as a “city of science”. The city is located in close proximity to the Frankfurt Airport. And many profit by visiting this city known as a high-tech centre with a multiple of activities such as spacecraft operations, chemistry, pharmacy, information technology, biotechnology, and telecommunications.
The Luisenplatz is the main square of Darmstadt. In the city centre one will be able to view the ducal palace of Darmstadt. One will like this palace which was the residence of the counts of Hesse-Darmstadt. The largest square of the city which forms the centre of the town is the “Luisenplatz”. Many of the modern buildings of the city surround the square these days. Another large town square that the tourists can visit is the Marktplatz which is near the town hall. One of the buildings worth a visit is the ‘Russian Chapel’ which was built as a private chapel by the last Tsar of Russia. Nicholas II, the last Tsar’s wife, Alexandra, was born in Darmstadt. |
