Nimes map is 708km south of Paris, and 43km west of Avignon. Nîmes, the city derives its name from Nemausus ‘From the source’, is a great place to view some of the world's finest Roman remains. Jardin de la Fontaine

It is a gorgeous garden that was laid out in the 18th century, using the ruins of a Roman shrine as an ornamental centerpiece. Its one of the most beautiful gardens in France. It is planted with rows of chestnuts and elms, adorned with statuary and urns, and intersected by grottos and canals.

Temple de Diana

It is close to the Jardin de la Fontaine gardens. It is the ruined and the remains of some Roman baths.

Mont Cavalier

It’s just a 10-minute walk from the north of the town center. Its a low but rocky hill, topped by the sturdy bulk of the Tour Magne, the city's oldest Roman monument. You can climb it for a panoramic view over Nîmes and its environs.`

Musée du Vieux-Nîmes

Nimes is home to a great number of museums. You can visit the Musée du Vieux-Nîmes, housed in an episcopal palace from the 1700s. It's rich in antiques.

Porte d'Arles

One of the city's busiest thoroughfares, boulevard de l'Amiral-Courbet, leads to the Porte d'Arles. It is the remains of a gate built by the Romans during the reign of Augustus.
