Lying in the Basse-Normandie region in France, Deauville is a commune of Calvados. France. Marinas, conference center, harbor, racecourse, Villas and grand casinos are the characteristics of this beautiful city. This place has the reputation of being the queen of Norman beaches.
It was Napolean III who made the coast of Normandy that was in proximity of Deauville, fashionable. Very soon, it became a popular destination of the tourists. And speculators developed the infrastructure necessary to accommodate members of the Imperial court and the growing Parisian bourgeoisie. Railway track came to the place in 1863. Trouville was the name of the station from where caught the train for Deauville. From Paris, it took only 6 hours to get to Deauville France. The locked harbor was dug up in 1866.
Morny inspired and persuaded the aristocratic society for staying at this coastal area by convincing them that it was good for their health. Land was bought and large villas, sometimes even palaces, were built. This development was followed by a casino and royal hotels which encouraged the rich tourists to spend their time here. Deauville hardly suffered during the First World War. Only in the Second World War, most of the leisure properties were confiscated for use by the occupying force.
During the 60s, it started to see famous and rich people coming from all over the world. Home to the Hippodrome de la Touques racecourse, the countryside around Deauville is the main horse breeding region in France and home to numerous stud farms. That resulted in a city that was twinned with Lexington, Kentucky which was the most recognized horse breeding locale. |
